Frequently asked questions

How reporting, moderation, privacy and map locations work.

How do I add a new location?

On the map, right-click on desktop or long-press on your phone, then choose Open report form. You can also use Use my location if you grant location permission. Confirm the selected point, report type, date and description before submitting.

Does a report go straight onto the map?

No. New reports wait for moderator review. Approved reports appear publicly; rejected reports remain private. Public map responses may be cached for up to one minute after approval.

Does this notify the government?

No. Wild Boar Canada is a community map, separate from government reporting programs. Use the official reporting directory as well, especially for live, sick or dead pigs and evidence of recent activity.

What information is public?

Approved reports publish their coordinates, report type, encounter date, description and report number. Optional name, email and phone fields are not included in the public map response. Do not put private contact details, names or sensitive access instructions in the description.

Can I upload photos?

The community form currently accepts text reports only. Keep your photographs for the provincial reporting program; several official forms accept them. Do not paste HTML or upload links into the description.

What if I am unsure it was a wild pig?

Describe exactly what you saw and say that identification is uncertain. Do not guess a species, animal count or exact encounter date. A moderator review is not scientific verification.

Are map points current and exact?

The map includes historical community reports. Check the encounter date; a pin is not a real-time animal location or an official population survey. Older coordinates can be approximate.

Can I hunt at a map location?

A sighting is not hunting permission or landowner consent. Check the provincial rules, protected-area restrictions and local requirements first. Some provinces prohibit recreational wild-pig hunting.

Why will my report not submit?

Choose coordinates from the map, enter a valid encounter date and use plain text. Email is optional, but must be valid if supplied. Reopen the form if the security token expires. The form limits submissions from one IP address to five per hour and ten per day; devices sharing a connection can share that limit.

Where can I read official guidance?

Use Rules by province for sourced legal summaries and Report to authorities for current reporting contacts. Each information page shows its review date; rules can change between reviews.

Is the old forum available?

The forum remains disabled. Use the map and reporting form for sighting submissions.

Why are some older photo reports still on the map?

Photo-linked reports get camera markers above ordinary clusters and stay included even when they are older than your selected latest-report limit. Type filters still apply. Only tightly packed photo markers are grouped; zoom in to separate them. Open a photo marker for the original photo link. Historical third-party links may no longer work; a photo link is not verification of the report.
